"Destroy the objective, but still survive"
"Pur" is my favorite song from the album. I love how the song builds up to the refrain through the budding energy of the synths and hit hats. While "Oomingmak" and "My Truth" both sound like nursery rhymes (see more about that on the blogpost about "My Truth"), "Pur" has the lyrics of one. In the song, the speaker seems to be talking to a baby, a little girl. She tells the little girl that even through anger, illness, or cold, she will care for her.
I think the most compelling lyric is “I’m not afraid of your anger” which comes at the refrain as a point of release. This particular lyric shows a deep love for whoever the speaker is speaking to. It is a reminder of the love mothers have for their children. However, I like thinking about the interpretation of the song that entails that the love expressed in the song is actually towards a younger and innocent version of the speaker. Regardless of the interpretation, the song is an extraordinary declaration of love either to a child or to the self that needs it.
