"And I deserve protection"
In "Theft, And Wandering Around Lost", a soft synth begins the song. Although there are no official lyrics, the song is speculated to be Elizabeth’s response to the end of the relationship between her and Rob Gunthrie. The song starts with a powerful declaration, “The man is an offender / He took my value.” The speaker is hurt about what she went through and uses the song to reclaim and come to terms with what she gave up in the relationship and what she was given. She asserts “My body is my own / My Body is mine alone / And I deserve protection” However, the lyrics are complex, as the title implies. "Theft" refers to what was stolen from the speaker, probably the time she spent loving the other person, and “Wandering Around Lost” likely refers to the confusion and disorientation expressed by the speaker in the song. The speaker wonders: “"Use me / Drain me / Fall around me" / Is this what my body said?” Overall, the speaker worries about what her tone might have been like for things to progress the way they did with her lover and the song is tinged with the insecurities that that might bring. Yet, there's a firmness within her declarations and she has changed from whoever she was before. Her lover did not treat her as well as he should've and she is trying to revitalize her strength through the affirmations in the song.
