On loving yourself

One of their softer songs, "Essence" feels like a night at the beach. The way I see it is that the extended melodies and sounds that follow Elizabeth’s vocals —which feel like a well needed scratch on the brain— are the waves coming to take whatever the speaker is singing about, her worries and her insecurities and according to the lyrics, they bring a message to her and “tells me I’m right” Here she refers to her assertion that the “you” is “precious to me”. She reassures her lover that even when she discovers herself and learns to love herself, she will continue to love him.
